Web design & development

Sites built from scratch: fast, mobile-first, and easy to change afterwards.

What this is for

Work that has to be found, understood and trusted before anybody gets in touch. A site is the first thing most customers see of a business, and it is judged in the first few seconds — on how quickly it loads, whether it reads properly on a phone, and whether the thing they came for is where they expected it to be. This covers all of that: the design, the build, the words and pictures in it, and the groundwork a search engine needs in order to index it. It is built to be changed afterwards, because the version that launches is never the last one, and those changes are made by us — running the site after it launches is part of the same work.

What it covers

  • Design and build

Every page is designed before it is built, and the build follows those measurements rather than approximating them. Layouts are checked at phone, tablet and desktop widths, not only at the one they were drawn at.

  • Content and copy

Headings, body text and page structure are written with you rather than filled with placeholder text. Where photographs exist we use them; where they do not, that is established early enough to arrange them.

  • Hosting and domains

The site is deployed to hosting and the domain is pointed at it with a certificate in place. You are told what runs where, so no part of the setup exists only in our heads.

  • SEO groundwork

Titles, descriptions, headings and a sitemap are in place at launch, and every page is a real address a search engine can fetch. That is the part that has to be right inside the build; competing for a ranking afterwards is search marketing.

What you end up with

  • A live site on your domain

Pointed at your own domain with a certificate, rather than left on a preview address.

  • Every page checked on real phones

Opened on actual handsets, not only resized in a desktop browser — the two do not behave the same, and the difference shows up in exactly the places that matter.

  • Copy and images in place, not placeholders

Nothing goes live still reading "lorem ipsum" or showing a stock silhouette where a real photograph belongs.

  • A site that stays looked after

We keep running it once it is live. New text, images and pages come to us and are checked at every width before they go up, rather than being edited on the live site.

What we need from you

  • Somebody who can approve a design

One person on your side who can accept a layout and settle a disagreement about it. Where that decision is shared between several people, agreeing it takes longer than building it.

  • Your logo and photographs, if they exist

Whatever you already use, at the best quality you have it. If there is nothing yet, that is a normal starting point and the work is planned around it.

  • The pages you actually need

A rough list is enough to start. It usually gets shorter once written down, which is a good outcome rather than a setback.

How a project runs
